VQS Coffee Ecotourism becomes operational
Story by Martin Rogers Ssemakula
On 12th December 2021, VQS Coffees and Barista Academy embarked on a five day coffee tourism round trip. The client was Mr. Ibrahim of Tourch Coffee Saudi Arabia. He is now our 2nd Coffee Tourism client in a space of three weeks.
The trip started from Kampala to Eastern Uganda. We made several stops at popular coffee cafes to re-energize and refuel ourselves with magical Ugandan coffee sips. In Jinja we made a stop at the source of River Nile and enjoyed the magnificent aero views at the new bridge.
Our major destination was Mt. Elgon in Kapchorwa district where the popular Arabica Coffee is grown. In Kapchorwa, we participated in several coffee processes including picking ripe coffee cherries, and washed coffee processing. We also visited the famous Sipi falls before we headed back to Kampala and embark on the Mt. Rwenzori Trip which saw us go through different game parks like Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kibale National Park. We met several park animals and also had a magical experience in the coffee farms as well us interacting with the different people and processes involved in the coffee value chain.
It was a very captivating experience connecting with the source of coffee, the most popular beverage in the world second only to water, from the Pearl of Africa's angle.
We look forward to many more coffee tourism trips in the near future.
